So, after setting up BGP peering and establishing connectivity to the outside world with my prefixes, my other priority is to setup a pair of authoritative DNS servers. This way I can use my own nameserver to set PTR records and also update my ARIN records with my authoritative DNS server addresses.
After some choosing, I decided to go with a pair of PowerDNS servers, with PowerDNS Admin for managing my DNS zones. They run on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS server, which is my default go-to distro. After setup, they’re allocated 1vcore and 512MB of ram. I can turn each VM off and re-allocate more resources as required. They’re reachable over IPv4 and IPv6.
It’s technically not best practice to host all your infra all in one basket, but I work with what I have!
